Types of coaching

Coaching for
groups

Lots of people love the support, accountability and insight that comes from being coached with a small group of people.

Each member of the group works on their own projects and goals. Clients take turns working with me for about 15 minutes while the others listen and reflect.

Held on Zoom video calls, group coaching sessions meet weekly for 1.5 hours. Each group is restricted to a maximum of three clients.

Coaching for
individuals

The most common way to work with a coach is one-on-one. You receive the most support and individual attention to transform your life.

We meet for one hour every week on a Zoom video call to work on your projects and goals. I’m also available for you for short periods of time (10 or 15 minutes) if you need urgent support on any day.

Coaching for
Organizations

Organizations are driven by their mission and mandate, but individual employees have different relationships with those goals. Coaching for organizations supports your employees to be their best selves as members of a team.

Individual sessions with employees are confidential, but focus on goals agreed-upon by both of you. We meet for one hour every week on a Zoom video call.

The life of your dreams

We all have ways we want to improve our lives. “I want to lose weight” or “I want my relationship with my parents to be better”.

I suspect that most of us have hopes and dreams that are even bigger than the “realistic” ideas we’ve created for ourselves.

But things get in the way of those goals. Maybe your career takes an unexpected turn or you can’t get pregnant. Or you just tell yourself you can’t do it; it’s too big and it’s never going to happen.

Sometimes we need support to move forward with our plans and dreams. This is where coaching comes in.

Coaching is a partnership between coach and client. I support you in creating the life you want through projects built around your goals. Each week, we connect for an hour to work through obstacles in your way.

What you will probably find as you work through your projects, is that you have actually put most of the obstacles in your own way. And as you find freedom from them, those loftier goals that seemed so unrealistic a few months ago start to become your new goals.

This is your journey

Have you ever felt like life will be so much better once you make it over the next hill? Or like life has become a series hurdles you have to make your way over? “I’ll finally be able to relax once I’ve paid off these bills” or “I’ll be happy when I meet the right partner”. The life you want is somewhere in the future.

The type of coaching I offer is called “ontological” coaching. Ontology is “the study of being” and it relates to how we “are” with the world.

Our experience of life usually depends less on the forces out of our control, and more on how we relate to ourselves and the world around us.

As we work on your goals and projects, ontological coaching helps reframe the way we “are” with self and others. We begin to create the reality we want for ourselves in the present, while moving toward goals that lie in the future.

FOR A LONG TIME IT HAD SEEMED TO ME THAT LIFE WAS ABOUT TO BEGIN - REAL LIFE. BUT THERE WAS ALWAYS SOME OBSTACLE IN THE WAY, SOMETHING TO BE GOTTEN THROUGH FIRST, SOME UNFINISHED BUSINESS, TIME STILL TO BE SERVED, A DEBT TO BE PAID. THEN LIFE WOULD BEGIN.

AT LAST IT DAWNED ON ME THAT THESE OBSTACLES WERE MY LIFE.

Alfred D. Souza

My journey

I first came to coaching as a client when I was trying to navigate a change in jobs. The job I had given my life to for years no longer seemed like it fit. That was devastating in and of itself, but the prospect of making the leap into another job (or maybe profession) was paralyzing. As I worked with my coach, I discovered something I hadn’t considered – that I could build the meaning and significance I craved from a job back into the job I already had.

COACHING HAS TAUGHT ME MANY THINGS, BUT THE MOST VALUABLE RESULT HAS BEEN A DEEPLY ROOTED BELIEF IN MYSELF.

My coaching experience was so profound that I decided it was something I wanted to offer others as a coach myself. My approach in coaching stems from a deep passion about how we get along and relate to one another as human beings. I believe that each of us is capable of so much more than we know or imagine. Growing together from possibility into possibility is what will give us what we need to face our greatest challenges.

I am trained by the world’s finest coaches training program, Accomplishment Coaching.

IT'S REMARKABLE HOW WE CAN SET OURSELVES UP
TO FAIL AND NOT EVEN REALIZE IT.

It's even more remarkable what limitless possibility
we can create when we choose
a different story to tell ourselves.

Let's get started

I’m looking forward to hearing from you!

I would love to hear about what you’re looking for and share what coaching could do for you.

If you live in Victoria, Canada, we can meet in person for a coffee, or we can connect online.

This first meeting is complimentary and usually lasts about a half hour. Then if you’d like to continue, we make a plan and go from there.

What is the difference between a coach and a therapist?

Therapists provide support and treatment for mental health, focused on past experiences and emotional healing.

Coaches are not medical professionals. They support clients in generating desired future experiences.

What is the difference between a coach and a consultant?

Consultants are experts in various fields who a client hires for advice.

Coaching is a client-driven process; the client is the expert in their own life. Coaches use the coaching process to help clients generate their own goals and results.

What does a coaching session look like?

We will usually connect for our coaching sessions on the phone or via video chat. This makes a coaching session more accessible for busy people, and you can choose to be in a space that you find familiar and comfortable.

Each week, you will come with a request for something to work on. A session lasts for an hour and your request will take up most of that time. We’ll also check in on how the past week has been.

What type of commitment does coaching require?

The minimum commitment is one hour per week for three months. That’s because creating the life you want doesn’t usually happen over night. You have to make a commitment to yourself for a consistent effort, so that you show up even if it gets tough.

Where are you located?

I live in Victoria, Canada, but I can work with clients all around the world. Coaching sessions take place on the phone or on video chat, so a session with someone in Copenhagen is no different from someone around the corner. We just have to make the time zones work!

How do we get started?

Use the contact form on this website to get started. You can share a little about yourself and what you’re looking for.

We’ll schedule a complimentary session so that we can get to know each other a bit. I can answer whatever questions you have. If you live in Victoria, Canada where I live, we can meet in person for this initial session. Otherwise, a phone call or video chat works just as well.

If you’re ready to start coaching then, we can get started with weekly sessions. We can also set up one more complimentary session to dive deeper into what coaching can offer you. Then you can decide if it’s for you!
